With the arrival of cooler weather, I’ve been swapping out my short sleeve layering tees for long sleeve styles. For those days that can fluctuate between “a little chilly” and warm, a cardigan is the perfect lightweight layer.
We don’t want to wear anything that’s binding or constricting, but we still want to look put together. So I’ve put together a few easy outfits to take some of the fuss out of getting dressed.
1. Cream Knit Cardigan With White Relaxed Separates
I am completely obsessed with this chic outfit formula. You start with a cream knit cardigan layered over a white shirt and pair it with matching white wide-leg pants. It’s an all-white moment! To pull the whole monochrome look together, a pair of black strappy heels is the perfect finishing touch.
This is such a home run for an effortlessly stylish day-to-night look. If you want to dress this one down, just trade the heels for some white sneakers.
2. Cropped Beige Cardigan and White Wide-Leg Pants
Here is an idea for an effortlessly chic cardigan outfit. It involves a cropped beige cardigan with a white tank top, some matching white wide-leg pants, and two-tone flats.
I just love the beige and white color combination. The cropped style gives the outfit a modern feeling, while the wide-leg pants add a relaxed vibe.
You can easily dress this look up with some heels or go more casual with white sneakers instead.
3. Oversized Dark Cardigan With White Wide-Leg Pants
If you’re looking for a cardigan outfit that is super cozy and comfy, this one is for you. It’s a simple formula: an oversized dark brown cardigan worn with white wide-leg pants and some tan UGG boots.
The slouchy, oversized cardi creates an effortlessly stylish silhouette when you pair it with wide-leg pants. And I think the UGGs add so much extra comfort while still looking really cute.
4. Black Button-Up Cardigan With Blue Jeans
For our next look, we’ve got another casual cardigan pairing. This one is a black button-up cardigan worn with a simple white top, blue straight-leg jeans, and some blue sneakers.
This is such a foolproof formula for amazing weekend style. A black and blue color combo is always a good idea, and the straight-leg jeans give it a nice vintage feel.
To dress it up, you could just swap the sneakers for black booties or even some loafers.
5. Chunky Knit Cardigan With Light Blue Jeans
Next on the list is a cardigan outfit combo that’s more casual and laidback. Here you have a chunky, oversized dark cardigan with a white tank top, light wash jeans, and classic white sneakers.
I really love the contrast between the tight white tank and the slouchy cardi. If you want to give this outfit a little more shape, just add a belt over the cardigan.
6. Oversized Dark Cardigan With White Cropped Tank
Here we’ve got an oversized dark cardigan layered over a cropped white tank top. This is styled with some light wash distressed jeans and white block heels.
This is such an on-trend way to wear cardigans that feels casual but still so polished. For a daytime look, you can wear this outfit with some white sneakers instead.
7. Neutral Cardigan With Ripped Jeans and Ankle Boots
Here is a cardigan outfit idea that is edgy but also neutral, and you can totally wear it year-round. It features a longline cream knit cardigan that’s layered over a lace camisole, paired with light wash ripped jeans and black ankle booties.
If you’re hoping for a more casual vibe, just swap out the booties for some white sneakers. It’s that easy!
8. Oversized Grey Cardigan With Matching Wide-Leg Pants
If you are a big fan of monochromatic outfits, then this grey knit cardigan paired with matching grey wide-leg pants is absolutely for you. I love that the sneakers keep the outfit looking modern and casual.
You could also switch out the grey pants for some light blue jeans for another cute color combination.
9. Short Sleeve Button-Up Cardigan With Light Blue Jeans
If you want an effortless weekend cardigan outfit, this one is a great choice. It has a cream short sleeve button-up cardigan paired with some light blue jeans and white sneakers.
The button-up cardigan style almost feels like a relaxed blouse, which makes it perfect for those off-duty days. To dress this outfit up a bit, swap the sneakers for tan wedges or some cute booties.
10. Black Cardigan With a Satin Skirt and Pointed Pumps
Finally, here is an elegant cardigan outfit idea that is just perfect for both work events and date nights. It features a simple black cardigan layered over a white satin slip skirt, styled with black pointed-toe pumps.
For a daytime version, just wear this outfit with black flats or booties instead of the heels.
11. Grey Button-Up Cardigan and Black Tailored Pants
For this first cardigan outfit idea, we have a grey button-up cardigan paired with some black tailored pants and classic black flats. This is a great outfit for work that looks both professional and stylish.
To make this outfit more appropriate for a business casual setting, you can swap the flats for a pair of black heels or some booties.
12. Black and White Cardigan Paired With Wide-Leg Pants
If you loved the earlier look with the black and white cardigan, here is another chic way to wear that exact same piece. For this look, we have it styled with a pair of black wide-leg pants and some black flats.
This combo creates a really nice elongating effect with the black bottoms and makes the outfit look instantly polished. For shoes, you could also wear black heels, loafers, or even white sneakers.
13. Striped Knit Cardigan With a Black Mini Skirt
Here’s a cardigan outfit idea that is a little dressier than the last one. It has a taupe striped knit cardigan layered over a black turtleneck bodysuit, along with a black mini skirt and some white ankle strap heels.
14. Ribbed Cardigan Over a Satin Slip Dress
For this outfit combination, we have a ribbed long cardigan that is worn over a satin slip dress. This is a super simple way to instantly elevate a dress and turn it into a more polished outfit.
15. Cropped Knit Cardigan With Pleated Midi Skirt
If you’re on the hunt for a cardigan outfit for the office, this one is absolutely gorgeous. It features a cropped grey knit cardigan with a white pleated midi skirt, tan strappy heels, and a handbag that matches.
For a night out, just switch the heels for some strappy sandals. This outfit would also work really well with a black pencil skirt.
16. Striped Knit Cardigan With Blue Jeans
Up next is a casual cardigan outfit idea that’s ready for the weekend. It features a black and white striped knit cardigan layered over a black shirt, along with blue jeans and white sneakers.
The striped print of the cardi adds a subtle touch of pattern to an otherwise simple outfit. To make this outfit a bit more girly, you can swap the jeans for a denim skirt. You could also trade the sneakers for some booties.
17. Black and White Cardigan With a Pleated Skirt
For our third look, we have a black and white trimmed cardigan that’s paired with a black pleated mini skirt and some mary jane shoes. This outfit is giving major retro vibes in the chicest way possible.
The coordinating black and white color scheme is always a can’t-miss choice. And a pleated skirt is the perfect bottom to pair with the preppy cardigan style.
To make this outfit more casual for daytime, just swap out the mary janes for white sneakers or some classic loafers.
18. Leopard Print Cardigan With Black Wide-Leg Pants
If you want to add some wild style to your cardigan outfits, a leopard print one like this is just perfect. To balance out the loud pattern, we paired it with some simple basics: a white cropped tank, black wide-leg pants, white sneakers, and a black cap.
For a more girly vibe, you can wear this cardigan outfit with a black skirt instead of the pants.
