Spring/Summer Style Resolutions

I love clothes in spring and summer…mainly because you have to wear LESS! I’ve really been struggling to make some staples in my wardrobe this summer but after giving it much thought I thought of a few that would really spruce up my wardrobe.

1. Wear lots of red, white and blue. Believe it or not you can pull this look off without being entirely patriotic and Wal-Mart shopper looking. Experiment with stripes, gingham and plaids to really add some pop. Try different pieces together and see what you can come up with.

2. Wear long sleeve shirts with shorts. Usually, I wear my long sleeves with dress pants or jeans but I took a chance this past weekend and wore a pair of black shorts from Express with a white button down. I rolled the sleeves up and slapped on a pair of red vans. It was a perfect look. It can be a great look for something dressy or casual.

3. Bow ties. I’m busting out all of my bow ties this summer. I’m really loving the look of pairing them with a short sleeve button down. It’s like combining that “I have a good body” douche show off gene with a classy dress up piece.

4. Wear my glasses more. I underestimate the use of glasses. People always think someone is smarter in their specs. Don’t be afraid to wear yours for a day. I’m trying to do it at least once a week.

5. Run more. Sure, this isn’t necessarily a clothing resolution…but you’ve got to be in shape to look good in your clothes.

Most people make their style resolutions at the beginning of the year…but you’re wearing different clothes then. Time to heat up that wardrobe!

Travel in Style

You should always dress your best, especially while traveling.

Last week, I went on a vacation with my boyfriend and his family. I could not have been more excited. We were off to San Francisco for a week of drinks, beautiful scenery, drinks, delicious food and drinks. Even though our flight at 8, I was up by 4 to primp myself for the flight.

Yes, the flight. I’ve heard the debate that you should dress “comfy” when traveling. I’m sorry but comfy is not a form of dress. It’s a type of couch.

Dressing nicely will honestly get you some good treatment. Have you ever seen anyone be upgraded to first class wearing a crappy sweatshirt and glasses? Yeah, me either. If you’re dressed a little nicer you’ve got more of a chance of getting some sort of upgrade if need be.

Total strangers will be completely nice to me just based on the way you dress. If you’ve got some sort of cute matching thing going on with your clothes people will be flashing you smiles instead of pushing your ass into the rail of the moving walkway (WHICH YOU WALK ON BY THE WAY).

If you’re traveling alone and your flight is delayed, it’s a good idea to have a drink to pass the time. If you’re dressed up you’ll look a lot less creepy drinking by yourself.

If you’re super polite to the people at the airport they may be nicer to you if you’re dressed a little better. I left an entire water bottle in my carry on and the bag checkers even let me take a drink from it before tossing it into the trash!

Dressing nice while traveling is essential. If you can match your outfit to your bag, even better. My goal in life is to be photographed and to end up some tumblr for my amazing style. I feel like traveling in nice clothes will get be there….that, and drinks.

If you’re like me then you work long hours and you’re constantly in an office. Sure, I go to the gym at the end of the day but there’s no excuse for being at rest throughout my workday. I keep elastic bands in my office to get a decent pump going every hour or so. Keeping your muscles well trained is key. I’ve Got the Blue’s… Clues

Have you ever bought something without realizing it strongly resembled an outfit worn by a quasi-pedofile on a children’s TV show. Okay, maybe you haven’t but this recently happened to me.

I was shopping at one of my favorite stores, GAP. I don’t know if it’s the contemporary soundtrack the store has or the wood paneling on their shelves but something always draws me into that store. I walked in and went crazy looking for items. The store was having one of those annoying sales where the sales associates come up to you every five seconds to remind you about the savings.

I went through the clothes I liked and came across some polos. A while ago there was a navy, gray and white striped rugby polo on the lead singer of fun. in ‘GQ’. GAP never released it although they claimed you could get (liars). Instead of that polo they had a similar one but in different colors. Because I loved how it looked so much in ‘GQ’ I got it.

My boyfriend was with me while I was shopping and had a sly smirk on his face the entire time I was shopping. As soon as I got home I threw the shirt on and realized why he was smirking. The shirt looked almost identical to Steve from ‘Blue’s Clues’ shirt. I stared at myself in horror as my boyfriend lost all control laughing at my new ensemble. How could I not have realized this?!

After further investigation I have found that this shirt isn’t even listed on their website. I guess they don’t want people with internet capabilities to realize that this was in fact the Blue’s Clues shirt. I had been tricked by GAP into buying this shirt. Since I was too lazy to go back to the store I just sucked it up and stuck with the Blue’s Clues shirt.

The point is if you ever see a shirt or an outfit that looks familiar, it probably is. You might know it from somewhere so quickly look up what you think it looks like. Most of the time, you’re right.

Forever, I will be referred to as Steve. I guess I better get one of those dog purses that Quvenzhané Wallis always carries around.

Glam Pick: Burberry Touch for Men

It’s nice to change up your scent depending upon the season. I just switched to Burberry Touch. I love this cologne because it smells so versatile. It seems appropriate for just about any occasion. Whether I’m going to work or a night out, this has me covered. The scent seems to last a long time too. Check it out if you’re on the market for a new fragrance.

JCP Going Back to JC Penney

Things are not looking good over at JC Penney…or jcp, whatever Ellen is telling us to call it these days.

A while ago, jcp hired Ron Johnson to take over the company and give it a drastic makeover. I have to say, it worked…well, at least I thought it was working. The store got some much more stylish clothing and gave every store a dramatic makeover that really brought some youth into the cruddy department store.

It doesn’t look like this was enough. The company’s stock begins to plummet and all fingers pointed towards Ron Johnson as the man responsible. What’s wrong with having a CEO who prefers the clothes in your store are things people actually might want to buy?!

Ron Johnson is finished with JC Penney. The new CEO is the very man he replaced, the old CEO Myron Ullman (you know with a name like Myron you can’t have ANY fashion sense). Ullman previously oversaw the company from 2004-2011. Hopefully it’s not entirely back to the old ways of JC Penny. It’d be nice if a few of the better points from the Ron Johnson period stuck around. We’ll have to see what the future holds. Hopefully this isn’t the end of JC Penney. More importantly, hopefully this isn’t the end of fashionable clothing as JC Penney.

Glam Pick: Old Navy Rugby Stripe Polo

Okay, I’m not the biggest Old Navy fan. Maybe it’s because of their overuse of talking mannequins and dogs that shed a lot in their commercials. I don’t know, but very rarely do i find something I actually like in their store.

Recently, I came across rugby stripe polo on their website and ordered one. It’s perfect. A comfortable but tight fit and great for the spring. They’re currently on sale so pick one up fast!
