Iman Challenges the Fashion Industry
Iman has challenged the fashion industry to feature more black models, or else she’ll protest.
The supermodel has stated that she will boycott any brand that doesn’t feature black models in either their advertisements or runway shows.
“It feels to me like the times need a real hard line drawn like in the Sixties, by saying if you don’t use black models, then we boycott,” Iman stated in an interview with Vogue UK.
Iman believes that the fashion industry has become more racially prejudice since she became a model in the ’80s. The New York Times had reported this year that black models only accounted for 6 percent of the runway looks at New York Fashion Week, falling from 8.2 percent in 2012.
