Hoodies: More Than Something to Keep You Warm
The hoodie is an item that most people take for granted. It’s there for you on a cool summer night, a crisp fall day or in the dead of winter to add some extra warmth under your favorite coat, but no one would say it’s much of a fashion statement. In the last year the hoodie has resurged as more than something you just throw on to keep warm. This year many people have donned the hoodie in response to the tragedy that occurred in Florida, using it as a way to show support of a cause. Hoodies have become an identifier, they are a way to show off your associations, where you are from, where you have been, and now they are even a fashion statement.
New York City is well known for its specialty boutiques. You can go to shops that only sell vintage dresses, or a shop that sells oddities like monkey skulls, and now you can go to one that wants to only sell hooded items: The Hoodie Shop. They opened their doors for Fashion Night Out to show off their collection and just have a good time. Questlove, drummer from The Roots, was there spinning out some sweet tunes.
Whether it’s your average college hoodie, or your stylish new fashion statement, it is clear that the hoodie is finding its way back into the fashion scene.
