Style Eye: Lana Del Rey

If you aren’t at least a little familiar with the name Lana Del Rey, it makes me wonder if you have been on the internet at all this summer. Lana Del Rey might be the biggest overnight success story this past year, not only for her self-proclaimed “gangsta Nancy Sinatra” image, but for her retro-glam style. People first took notice when her song “Video Games” hit the blog world in 2011 and the rest is history, including performances on SNL and American Idol, along with the January release of her first album, Born To Die. From her dramatic red carpet appearances to her casual street style, Lana Del Rey’s style is something worth keeping a fashionable eye on.

Lana Del Rey’s style can be unpredictable, but a few reoccurring staples include slinky dresses, flared skirts, skinny jeans, high-waist bottoms, graphic tee’s, and anything vintage. She often wears lace dresses in pastel colors like baby blue or white, but turns up the glam factor in dramatic reds and blacks for events like The Met Ball or The Cannes Film Festival. Lana has appeared on magazine covers including Vogue, Glamour, Billboard, and Rolling Stone donning pieces like a retro one-piece bathing suit, high-waist hot pants, and floral accents.

Lana Del Rey keeps rising to stardom through not only music, but fashion as well. The designer Mulberry collaborated with the singer for a line of handbags called “The Del Rey”. In addition, H&M confirmed in July that Lana will be the face of their fall campaign. The campaign will incorporate her vintage style with sixties mini-dresses, big hair, and other retro elements, making Lana Del Rey the perfect spokesmodel.
