Fashion and Fifty Shades of Grey
At this point, you’ve must’ve heard of Fifty Shades of Grey. The book which many women all around the world are getting lost in. The book that women can’t wait to see a film version of. The book that’s put sexuality back on the map.
But, I bet you didn’t know that the book (and it’s two sequels), written by British author E.L. James, has launched itself into the fashion industry.
Marc New York, a division of US luxury label Andrew Marc, has decided to use the book as influence for their first advertising venture.
The ad stars 2008 Miss Universe winner Dayana Mendoza as virginal Anastasia Steele and former Scottish rugby player Thom Evans as kinky billionaire Christian Grey. Evans is wearing only a low hanging towel, while Mendoza is in a slinky grey unzipped dress.
Marc New York is known for its men’s outerwear and knitwear, and it’s women’s collection, which features dresses, handbags, sunglasses, and outerwear.
English tailoring company Norton & Townsend has also decided to use the series as influence. They’ve just designed a 200-piece collection of grey suits, with fun names associated with the series. Some of the names include Gregarious Grey, Gentle Grey, and Guilty pleasure Grey.
And as previously mentioned on this site, UK-based Caroline Mickler Ltd will be releasing a line of Fifty Shades inspired apparel, fragrances, beauty products, bedding, home furnishing, stationary, jewelry, and adult products for adult women. Expect to see the line released sometime next year.
