Laundry 101: Bra Care
Fashion typically pays attention to what people are wearing on the outside, but what is under clothing is just as important. If what is under the garments on the outside is wrong, the whole outfit will suffer. The staple of undergarments is the brassiere. Bras are literally the support system of women, besides family and friends of course. Every great outfit begins with a great bra and if a bra is worn out, the outfit won’t live up to its full and fashionable potential. Bras don’t last forever and suffer from a multitude of issues, such as deformed cups, loss of elasticity, and broken hooks or wires. Here a few tips on how to extend the life of your bras so you always look your best.
1. The first and most vital tip is to always hand wash bras and lingerie. Fill a sink with cool water and gentle detergent and let the bra soak. Gently rub the fabric with your hands and hang to dry. If you must use a washing machine, use the delicate cycle, but never put a bra in the dryer, where cups can get misshapen.
2. Second, try not to wear a bra two days in a row. Wearing a bra over and over again will cause the elastic to wear out faster and produce an ill fit. Nobody wants to deal with a bra riding up all night when they’re trying to have a good time.
3. My last tip is to invest in more bras! Having more bras will allow you to go more days in between wears so the elastic bounces back and gives you a snug and secure fit every time you put it on. Storing bras flat can also help them maintain their shape for a better fit.
