Eco Spotlight: Miranda Kerr
One of the most gorgeous women to ever represent Australian models, Victorias Secret Angels, and also going green is the one and only Miranda Kerr. This Australian native rose to fame when she was signed as a VS Angel in 2007, being the first Australian to participate in the Victorias Secret campaign. She has been modeling since age thirteen, and at age 29, she is still looking as hot as ever!
Kerr has made her mark all over the fashion world. In her early career, she did ads for Billabong, Baby Phat, L.A.M.B., Betsey Johnson, Neiman Marcus, Rock and Republic, and a lot of others. She was also in print ads featured in Elle Magazine, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Victorias Secret catalogues. After her signing with VS in 2007, she has worked with Arden B., Clinique, and Forbes modeling agency- where she was placed tenth in the world’s top-earning models in 2008, after earning $3.5 million in 12 months, and placed ninth in 2009.
Miranda launched her very own skin care line with George Moskos in 2009 called “Kora Organics”, which she became the face for. That same year she also posed naked chained to a tree (how chic!?) in order to raise awareness for endangered koalas in the Australian Rolling Stones magazine. In 2010, she also launched a book called “Treasure Yourself. Treasure Yourself.” This is an encouraging and inspirational self-help book for young women.
In 2011 & 2012, Miranda Kerr was named the Earth Hour Global Ambassador for two consecutive years in a row. Earth Hour is an hour-long, lights-out event that encourages people all across the world to spend sixty minutes using no electricity. It takes place every year during one day at the end of March. Miranda pledged to turn her lights out in honor of the World Wide Fund for Nature. She vows her dedication to reducing her carbon footprint by using local produce, buying organic products, and recycling. She also encourages others to use energy efficient lighting and paperless banking. So many little changes can prove to be a big help to the environment!
Miss Kerr participates in and supports the Wildlife Warriors Worldwide and Children International charities. She also practices Buddhism, and loves to do yoga, meditate, and read on spirituality. She was even named one of Shape Magazine’s Top 10 Fit Eco-Friendly Stars! She loves to share tips about how to go green at home on your own. Some of the ways that she stays eco-friendly include using eco-friendly light bulbs, riding a bike instead of driving a car, growing her own vegetables, and sporting as much green clothing as she can! Miranda’s slogan as ambassador of the 2012 Earth Hour was “I will if you will.” I think that we should all adopt this motto ourselves, after learning about how gorgeous gift to the modeling world makes inspiring choices in order to be go green… Miranda, I will if you will.
