Chanel: Resort 2013

Chanel’s 2013 Resort collection encompassed anything but simplicity when premiering Monday, May 14, 2012 in Versailles, France. The ruffle and lace-clothed models strutted in front of a running fountain while Alice Dellal performed.

Karl Lagerfeld never ceases to surprise me with his designs. I really enjoyed the majority of Chanel’s cruise collection, minus a few dresses that weren’t necessarily my personal style. My favorite looks included a light teal swimsuit that had the illusion of a two piece, but was connected by lace of the same color, a short-sleeved above the knee, structured white dress with lace and flower detailing, as well as my favorite design: a white mini dress with purple detailing down the front, with white fabric extending further than the length of the dress around the back and sides, leaving a gap in the front to see the shorter layer. I thought this was an innovative way to change a simple mini dress design.

According to an interview with the New York Times, Karl Lagerfeld said, “I wanted to give France back some lightness.” I think that this collection was really radiant with the fabric choices and detailing, along with adding a little edge from a few black numbers, including a black leather ensemble with a checkered print accompanied by platform sneakers.

I’m looking forward to what Mr. Lagerfeld shares with us in Chanel’s next collection.
