Eco Spotlight: People Tree

UK clothing company People Tree has set out to be completely Fair Trade.

But what is Fair Trade?  It means that the objective of creating a product is not for profit, but rather to help people in the world’s communities escape poverty and promote sustainability.

People Tree was founded in 1991 and is one of the pioneers of Fair Trade Fashion Internationally.  The company is an active member of WFTO, or the World Fair Trade Organization.

And how is People Tree Fair Trade?  Well, the company actively supports 50 Fair Trade producer groups, located in 15 developing countries.  They often help provide training to artisans, make 50% advance payments on orders to help farmers and producer groups, and donate money to local communities.

The company uses only 100% organic cotton and all production is done by hand.

People Tree also has a foundation, which aims to reduce poverty, promote more environmental projects, and campaign to create an empowering environment for Fair Trade.

In term of actual clothes, People Tree has some really cute and affordable clothes for both men and women.  There’s also different designer collections, including one from actress Emma Watson.
